IT Band.

November 14, 2010

Someone. anyone, help me.

I’m still recovering from IT band syndrome. I just feel sad and angry that I can’t run.

I’ve been going to physical therapy, foam rolling, using a tiger tail and icing. i’m just so upset.

back story!—> i injured myself on a 4 mile run memorial day weekend (30th of May). I took 5 weeks off from running in the summer with no physical therapy. Then i started running again, by the end of august i realized i was still not back feeling good. so i went to my doctor again, and i’ve been going to physical therapy 1-3 times a week since september. i just got the ok to start running again and i’m still feeling little twinges of pain in my knees! is this normal? i just feel so sad that i can’t even run 2 miles when i used to be running 7, 8, or 9.  :(

comforting words and wisdom would be appreciated.

I’m Still Alive

October 27, 2010

So, it feels like its been centuries since i last posted anything.

i miss blogging. i’m so busy with school and painting, drawing, designing etc. that there aren’t enough hours in the day :(

i am still eating healthy and whittling myself down to me ideal race-weight.

i got injured in may, sadly my IT band… :( i’ve been going to physical therapy 3 times a week since september. its a long healing process. I feel so sad some days when I see other “healthy” people running :( .

the good news is i have renewed my love affair with swimming. I swim usually 3 days a week. I still get to feel like a fitness badass, only without sneakers and a swim cap.

so thease are just some recent things going on in my life…

i cut off 11 inches of hair and donated it the Pantene beautiful lengths.

I went hiking.

i went apple picking

i did an illustration based on Austin Powers 2.

Mom and I planted over 300 tulip bulbs in the front of our house.

love and miss all of you who read my blog. i want to be back soon with some food things and maybe some wisdom on recovering from ITB.

Lovin’

February 7, 2010

Hello All.

I’m watching the Super Bowl right now. Happy Sunday!

I thought this week that I would share some of my  favorite products with ya’ll–as sort of PRE-Valentines Day “things I’m in love with” post…

So to begin…

Trader Joe’s Extra Firm Tofu - this is the best tofu for baking! It stays together perfectly and never tastes spongey. I love it!

Trader Joe’s “Nuts about Antioxidants” TREK MIX Bars- these bars are chewy and filled with dried cranberrys and raisins, and taste deliciously tart and sweet all at once!

Pineapple and Oikos greek yogurt! – why I love it? Well because its simple and packed with protein ! PLUS Oikos is ORGANIC which I love because non-organic dairy sort of skievs me out.  Perfect for a post run treat! delicious– I also like to throw a little granola on top and make it a party! YUM

Mom’s homemade applesauce – My Mom makes AWESOME applesauce! Its simple…just apples in a pot with a little bit of lemon juice & a tablespoon of sugar. heated until apples get a little mushy , then use a potato masher and mash away! SO GOOD.

Coffee Mate “Italian Sweet Cream” creamer – I have to say I just tried this THIS week in honor of the Hungry Yogini missing it so much (ps- you’re living my dream…) It is so good, in fact I’m about to have some now!

Roasted Chickpeas - I am in absolute LOVE with chickpeas. Its unreal. I could eat them for 3 square meals a day (I don’t but…I’m tempted!) So all I do is roast them in a 400 degree oven in a little canola oil, salt and pepper. SO GOOD. I put them in salad with my favorite Annie’s Goddess Dressing! :) LOVE.

My own recipe “Homemade Hummus” - This hummus is … a concoction I made myself: in a food processor, 1 can of drained (rinsed) chickpeas, 2 tablespoons olive oil, a lotta lemon juice, salt to taste and 1/3 c. or so of tahini. The hummus isn’t garlic-y like most, so you can kiss your man after eating it…or just not offend other students in class…:)

Russell Stover’s chocolate covered marshmallow hearts - I LOVE THEASE. I love the idea of  chocolate covered marshmallows and I have always loved these! Its unreal. I have them in 4 flavors. 1. Dark chocolate marshmallow, milk chocolate and strawberry mallow, milk chocolate and marshmallow and dark chocolate and coconut!!) I’m insane.

Other things I love– I keep dreaming about spring and daffodils. I want SPRING so bad! I can’t wait for the trees to get green again. Until then–I’ll be bundling up and heading outside in my Under-Armor to go running because… Tomorrow I am starting my training tomorrow for my Half-Marathon on MAY 2nd. HOLY MOLEY!

This is the training program I am using! CLICK HERE.

That’s basically all that’s going on with me. I’m living life here. Trying to get a position with my college’s newspaper as the new main editorial cartoonist for next fall. (cross your fingers!) and balancing school with running/swimming and homework and friends. All good things. Have a good week everyone and happy valentines day!

January 31, 2010

Oh, I’m sorry. I’ve been such a bad blogger.

Well. Nothing really to report, so I guess this post is pretty lame too.

I made this “strawberry soy shake” the other day…

Oh and this is a video of me drinking it…haha

Ps- I’m newly obsessed with PINK! and hearts and everything Valentines Day. YAY LOVE.

and I went to The Met this weekend, and re-fell-in-love with Vincent Van Gogh.

I’ve been kinda busy with school. I’m only taking 5 classes this semester, but one is online. and I’m having a little trouble with time management on that one…

I really wanna quit facebook. it sucks up my life.

That is all.

I hope that next time I find the time I’ll have more too say.

They Say It’s Your Birthday!

January 15, 2010

Hey everybody!

So my birthday was Wednesday. and now I am 20!!!

My Birthday breakfast was Vegan waffles with banana and strawberries and real maple syrup. also COFFEE!

My Mom and Dad gave me a wonderful card with a giraffe on it! <3

I had a really great day– My sister and my boyfriend took me out to eat at this greek place near my house for lunch. I had hummus and pita and salad it was SOOO GOOD! :) I’m a sucker for hummus and pita. its the real deal.

I celebrated with some vegan cupcakes from this place called “Sweet Avenue”.

Check out these beauties…

In the above photo, from the top left to right – Peanut butter chocolate chip, “Jet Black”, Cinnamon bun, (next row) “Dark side of the moon”, “Knickerbocker Glory”, “White Room”, (next row), “Sexy Sadie”, “Tiramisu” and Boston cream!

Also, last week I had my friend over for some vegan lemon cake …. also beautiful.

Now that I’m sitting here slobbering over these cake photographs…drinking tea…detoxifying my system from all these sweets…

Oh I almost forgot, I saw Carmen the opera. It was wonderful. If you’re ever in New York City I recommend going to the Met Opera house–it is definitely an experience.

On my birthday I saw Norah Jones! She was very good, but she has no personality, I hate to tell you guys. She acted as though she didn’t even want to play… Oh well. I got a free I Heart Radio tee shirt, so all is well in the world!

So ...today I started my Healthy Living LOSE THE COOKIE WEIGHT plan/system/whatever.
It doesn’t entail much, just eating better and less food and working out. I’m now doing Pilates for dummies and loving it!

I am also obsessed with Annie’s Goddess salad dressing! Never have I been more excited to eat my leafy greens!

Also, my breakfast has become a new obsession.  it’s Oikos greek yogurt, strawberries and Trader Joe’s Vanilla Almond Granola! SOOO GOOD!

Oh. I almost forgot, my birthday presents!

I got this NEW Lucky Brand Bag, which I absoultely love –from my Ma and Pa! <3

My Loving Boyfriend got me these earrings from Anthropolgie and this beautiful journal from there as well…

plus…

And yesterday…I splurged on myself. It was time …time for NEW SNEAKERS!!!

These are Asics… now, I’m usually a Nike girl, but I decided to give these a try.

I’m running another Half Marathon on May 2nd, along the Jersey Shore. it should be wonderful, hopefully these babies will gracefully lead me to the finish line (in under 2 hours and 5 minutes…(my PR) ahah).

Alright beautiful people…Hope you’re all having a good day and continue to have good days! I’ll be back soon!

xoxo, Hannah

ps- Good luck to all of us college students going back to school next week! Oye vey!

Maybe that was a little hasty…

January 11, 2010

Bonjour, I’ve been nuts latley…maybe by last post was a little hasty…but I have to admit the craziness is probably because of the 10 pounds I’ve gained since starting this blog back in the spring. I call it my “Cookie Weight” because I think it’s from all those Christmas cookies I made…(i made like 6 different kinds…it was the real deal…and delicious..)

Pb&J's vegan, of course.

Soooo that being said. I’d like to keep this blog right where it is and sort of use it as a tool to get my life back on track and lose these dreaded pounds and get back to normal (and back to fitting into my jeans). I.E. For a brief time this blog will be devoted more to losing this weight then normal.

I told my best girl friend about how I gained weight over this winter break and she responded to me by saying,”Hannah, that means you had a good holiday”.

I was a bit taken back, I thought for sure she was going to say, “Yeah me too” or “Yeah, you just have to diet in January…” or “You can always do a detox” something like that… But it goes to show that weight isn’t everything and it’s just a number.

I feel the need to lose this weight because of one main reason. MY JEANS DON’T FIT. So that’s reason enough for me to put the delicious chocolate chip cookie down, and get my ass back on that exercise bike.

For Christmas I got a Garmin FR60 fitness watch/heart rate monitor and foot pod to track all of my miles! I love it and recommend it to any runner beginner or advanced. Its amazing. The only thing it doesn’t have that other Garmin watches have is a GPS…but I’m in suburban New Jersey…I don’t think I need a GPS here…haha…and it’s PINK! :) What girl doesn’t like that?

So Anyway…

I have been getting into YOGA. It was tough for me at first because I’m such a sports girl and I love the adrenalin rush of running and I though that just sitting and breathing in yoga poses wouldn’t be fun for me. But I wasn’t completely wrong. I LOVE the “Dummies” yoga DVD’s.  They are wonderful and don’t make you feel stupid about not knowing what worlds like “hatha” mean etc. The instructor, Sara Ivanhoe is wonderful she’s not too mellow she’s really easy to follow…Finkleberry recommended!

Also, I got a job at The Gap back in September, I haven’t talked much about that … But yeah, its a really good job, and I get a KILLER 50% discount. So… it’s awesome.

This week should be a good one. I’m seeing Carmen, the opera in New York City on Tuesday. And then Wednesday is my 20th Birthday...(Yes I am going to have cake!!!) and I’m seeing Norah Jones that night. It’s going to be a good week. And I’m going to stay on track eating and excercizing because that’s what I do.

Hope everyone had a healthy and happy holiday. And I hope you all enjoyed your cookies as much as I did…

To conclude, heres my running stats for today…

Twenty-ten Re-vamp

January 4, 2010

Hi everyone,

Hannah here.

Happy New Year.

I’m thinking about beginning a  new type of blog here on wordpress.

I want to get back to blogging. I miss it. I want it to be a food blog….an place to show my artwork, a healthy living blog…a place to find recipies…a place to showcase the things I love.

When I create it i’ll give the new URL here.

Love you all!

Paper Chain

December 9, 2009

The Tree at Rockafeller Center

Hi all!

I’m all “up in christmas” as my sister once said.

My mom and I just made a paper chain for the tree (hence the title of this post)

I’ve been super busy with finishing my portfolio(s) for my finals… as the semester is almost over (one week from tonight!) yes!

I’m not ready though, because i have LOADS of studying to do. But as always I’d rather blog then study.

Lately in the world of Hannah…

My boyfriend brought me anniversary flowers.

These photos are from Pre-Thanksgiving, but I forgot to upload them…woopsies?

Vegan Pb&J cookies, and vegan oatmeal raisin cookies YUM!

These cookies were delicious! From The Joy of Vegan Baking. This book is a baker’s bible, i swear!

Inside St. Pat's

My Mom, Aunt, Sister, and Grandma and I went to the city last friday to see the tree, st. pat’s cathedral, and we saw the Broadway show WICKED. it was wonderful!

…and I’ve been organizing some of my artwork. I will have a flickr page up soon with a full portfolio of my best work of the semester which I will link to this blog if anyone is interested in seeing! :) (which i hope you all are. )

Some artwork..."Stella"

I’ve been keeping very busy. I’m running about an hour a day…and on Monday’s i swim. This week i swam the furthest i ever have. 70 laps in 45 minutes. I’m a fish!

I’m trying out this whole vegan thing. I’ve really been enjoying it. I love vegan hot chocolate (soy milk, cocoa and water = love) with a candy cane, and I’m in heaven. I also love my Mom’s bean burgers, which I will post a recipe and how to soon because they are AWESOME.

Other things : I decked out our house in Christmas lights (i’ll show once I find the time to take pictures…ahha) and We put up both of our trees (yes we have two christmas trees, one int he kitchen and one in the living room…) we’re kind of crazy. haha.

OH! I’m also obsessed with BEJEWELED BLITZ on Facebook. People, I swear once you start playing you cannot stop, it’s insane!

I am also obsessed with the CELESTIAL SEASONINGS SEASONAL TEAS: Gingerbread Spice and Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride are my favorites! :) YUMO!

WELL that’s all for now kiddies I have to get back to work. I promise when this semester is over, or once i’m done with finals, I will have PHOTOS GALORE!

xoxo, Hannah Jane
